Convert PSX games to PSP with PSX2PSP

Convert PSX games to PSP with PSX2PSP tutorial guide

Simple tutorial to learn to convert PS1 games to PSP eboots that can be played on a PSP, this will be useful later when i’ll start uploading PSX games, soon.
So, this is easy:

Convert PSX games to PSP with PSX2PSP:

STEP 1: Download the thing:
First we need to download a utility to convert the ISO to EBOOT, it’s called PSX2PSP (du’h),
I’ve made a pack with the latest version (1.4.2) and also a file necessary for the program to work (BASE.PBP)  it’s already included, so all you need to do is download it and extract it:

PSX2PSPv1.4.2

STEP 2: Run the Program:
Open the program (PSX2PSP.exe) and you will see the interface, it looks like this:

So what you do is click on the [...] icons and search for what the program is asking:
1- The ISO/BIN of the game you want to convert.
2- A folder to save the EBOOT
3- It’s a list of existing games, you have to choose the game you are converting from the list and it will fill all the other blanks for you.
4- An icon image, not mandatory but looks cool.
5- A background.

You can add music and other stuff but i usually only do the icon+background, a good resource for them  on QuickJump forums where users make them and share them.

Note: I recommend you click options and set compression to 1. It’s the setting that worked best for me, no compression often make the eboot not work at all. and too much compression can cause glitches so i always use 1.

6- When you are done click Convert.

STEP 3: Transferring the game to your PSP and playing!
After converting the game you will find a folder on the output directory named after the ID (which the program shows you) of the game you converted.
It is extremely important that you copy this folder on the right place which is inside the Game folder of the PSP. The full path goes like this:

Where TITLE  is the folder you got from converting the ISO, that to keep your sanity i recommend you to rename it to match the game’s title.

That’s it, the game should now appear on the psp game menu.

Common mistake:

  • The game is listed as corrupted data: This is most likely due to wrong placement of the EBOOT file, it has to be inside a folder (title of the game) which is inside the game folder, not respecting this hierarchy will result in this error.

If the game hangs/freeze try changing the disc-load speed to fast.
This can be done from the menu that pops up when you press select inside the game.
And also from the same menu (Other settings) you should set the game to Full Screen.

Have fun playing those classics on your psp!

’1- The ISO of the game you want to convert.’
Nico, what about games like FF IX that have several discs?

I’d like to covert FF XIII to play it on my PSP. If I’m not wrong there is one .iso for each disc.

  • Kurain

Okay, that was me trying to delete the comment after I Opened the tools. Sorry for asking before actually checked.

is it a psx game you converted with this method? what game is it? and what CFW do you have?

  • Tan9995

Hey Nico you’e helped me before maybeyou can help me again ^^; well theres a game called Critical Blow I was wondering if that game can be con erted to eboot cuz when i download it it says that it is a 7z file which i don’t know what it is help please

  • Tan9995

and when I extracted it it gave me 2 files onw .bin and one .cue

  • http://www.nicoblog-games.com/ Nico

I think the bin will work same as iso.

  • Tan9995

So I just put the bin the “game folder ” Or something else

  • Yūki Terumi

lemme help you with this. Download the game. I.E: FFVII.
1.Extract it with winrar or zip.
2.It will now create a folder called “FF VII”.
3.Now COPY the FOLDER and paste it in this route: ms0/PSP/Games

As you look, you need to copy the folder created and do not mess with the files: eboot, cue and bin files. Otherwise as Nico posted, it will say corrupted data. Edit:

Quick note: the Bin and Cue BOTH work as a ISO, Castlevania Symphony of the night work like that.

  • Tan9995

That’s the thing…there is no eboot just bin and cue i really really miss this game and I don’t know what to do

  • Nico

I meant: Follow the guide it doesn’t matter if you have a bin instead of an iso, PSX2PSP doesn’t care just give the bin location if that’s what you have it will convert it to eboot it doesn’t have to be an ISO.
